Aurora broke onto the scene with her 2016 debut album, All My Demons Greeting Me As A Friend. After a few listens, it seemed to me she was trying to be the Norwegian Bjork, but with less vocal acrobatics. She was definitely shooting for that quirky sound that danced the line between electronic, pop, indie, and world music... but that initial release lacked cohesion and direction. Her second release fixed those two things to some extent, but was still missing the strong songwriting that pop should have. A Different Kind of Human - Step 2 finally finds Aurora getting everything right. Her music is still quirky and left-of-center, but she has finally stopped burying the pop hooks, and it definitely feels like one cohesive album and not a collection of random ideas. She has also gone for a more electronics-dominated release, which I definitely appreciate.

I'll start off with the fact that I'm not a big pop fan (or so I thought). I was spontaneously introduced to her music. When I started listening to it I fell in love.rThe song Animal caught me off guard because it sounds like a Eurovision song. I think both of the first tracks could be seen as Eurovision songs, but that doesn't mean that they are bad, they are actually really good catchy songs. smooth sailing afterwardsrDance On The Moon and Daydreamer are definitely the highlights of this record. Her vocals are absolutely dreamy, especially in the parts where the vocals are layered. Hunger sounds like a bit of a mess. The chorus isn't really original. Kinda bland. Now Soulless Creatures is the best song on this record. An absolutely stellar vocal performance. Also, sounds A-ha inspired. rThe end is kind of a mess. I think that Mothership is a useless track, it would be far better if it was a long outro for A Different Kind Of Human. The song Apple Tree is a disappointment because it has an upbeat intro which leads me wanting the chorus even more, instead we get this muddy mess. In Bottles has this almost constant build-up to the next song, which is where The Seed should be, but it isn't. Nice tenor choir outro though.rThe Seed is the powerhouse of this record. I'd say that it's the environmentalists' anthem. It would be better if this was the outro song. rAll in all, this is a great record, I'd say it's one of my favourites. Can't wait for her next LP.

"Daydreamer" is one of the most beautiful songs I've heard this year or any recent year in memory. The album is pretty uplifting and beautiful overall, it's striving for greatness but misses the mark just a bit with a few lackluster tracks. However, nothing on this album is "bad" by any means, just some average tracks that pull the album down a peg or two.

This was an enjoyable pop record and AURORA?s themes and production are a breath of fresh air in this genre. However, compared to the first part of this project, I feel like this album is less ambiguous from a songwriting and production point of view. The first half while having some highlights like ?The River? and ?Soulless Creatures?, it can feel a little generic at times. Thankfully the latter half takes a few more risks, although the change in sound is a little jarring. Still a solid record and AURORA is definitely one of the most unique sounding artists in Pop. 7/10
