Rosalía goes pop, Rosalía takes a good dash of electronic, and Rosalía dumps a whole lot of the acoustic guitar to make space for these new influences while retaining a lot of the flamenco AAooaoAoeeoEOAoeAOoeAAaa vocals, albeit in smaller doses. A shorter format definitely suits her, and even then the last three track feel almost superfluous, with the pretty good 10 being stuck in between two over esoteric tracks. There is a lot of charm to be found here in the weird but flowing mix of mysterious vocalisations, traces of beats, and unusual prod/instrumentation. Although the first LP is perhaps 'objectively' stronger, the overall enjoyment from this one is simpler and more readily accessible. Only track 4 was a true let down, being excessively weird and way too random in its background noises. 2 or 7 were particular favourites. This is not a bangers album yet, and it is worth listening on the whole as there is care put into the construction - 10 is for instance magnified by being preceded by a much calmer track. And since it is short and overall more readily enjoyable, unlike LA I can see myself re-jamming it in semi-full in not so long. 3.8

El Mal Querer constitutes the transition between the flamenco-full Los Angeles and the zeitgeist-perceptive MOTOMAMI. It's a transition, not a fully fleshed-out marriage: the charm of Rosalia's debut is kinda lost here, and she isn't experienced enough to pull out the mega bangers that rhythmed 2022.

For me El Mal Querer is a master piece.rFrom here on she can do anything and won?t change the punch that EMQ gives.rEvery song is different, different sound, different feeling, different production...rHer voice goes from angelical to a powerful scream of pain and violence.rFamiliar sounds of pure guitar to distorted autotune and engines.rRisk taker and comforting.rThis is the 1st vinyl I have bought since 1997.

Es el hijo que tuvo Bebe y La Mala Rodríguez, tiene una excelente voz, pero no es nada nuevo bajo el sol, ya hay varias como ella con la diferencia que ella si logro ser popular o llegaron antes que ella. Ame que el álbum tiene un concepto cosa que casi nadie hace. Tiene una que otra buena canción, se nota la calidad en la producción, por momentos me es aburrido y podría decir un poco pretencioso en los tracks más "flamencos" creo que abusa de ese recurso. Es bueno el álbum, pero no es la gran cosa.

One of the most promising voices of flamenco in Spain takes a fatally wrong turn. The purity and strength she showed in Los Angeles is been polluted with cheap production botches and squeezed to fit the always sad Spanish pop scenario. Very disappointing.
