Review Summary: A little bit of everything in this daring electronic album.
Traversa has much brighter, more prominently melody-driving synths than Geotic’s previous album. Abysma was fairly ambient and hazy, and though it was beat heavy, a stark lack of flashbangs diminished potential music quality from ever fully blooming into something significant. Geotic is no longer beating around the bush in Traversa, a statement. This album is upbeat and immediate, a constant bass beat still active. House music returns, but this time quite inviting, and less cold. It seems that serious passion was behind this album; the synths are given more love, and the beats are often more intricate. It’s much less ordinary and trifling, the whole thing is enfused with significant vibrance and textures - everything I wanted from Abysma. It might actually get you up to dance or at least shake your leg, whereas Abysma had me firmly squatting.
Abysma had some vocal sampling, and singing that I didn’t particularly care for. Traversa fixes that and includes pleasant singing with a surprisingly potent indie style, coupled with a few vocal hooks that are elegantly placed alongside the springy synths. This is a much better electronic album than Abysma altogether, showing signs of life in the project after so many albums. As last time it’s no classic release yet still close enough, with a bucket full of tricks. It relaxes while it rejuvenates, basically a meditative journey, and is ultimately a great album to put on. Catchy tunes or a chill escape - it’s quite impressive.
