George Clinton, the mastermind behind the world-renowned funk group Funkadelic, simply had too much of a drive musically to stay veiled in one bands' confines. That's why Parliament, the sister group to Funkadelic, is such an important band. P-Funk was born from those groups, and while it's not entirely evident on Osmium, the same precursors that can be heard on early Funkadelic can be heard here. That being said, it really feels far too much like an early Funkadelic record to be its own thing, even though it's good some good enough material. Some of the overly-indulgent accented vocals tend to hurt certain songs, mostly the "country" themed ones, but elsewhere the songs are pretty solid psych-funk, enjoyable and groovy. In all, Parliament's debut is vastly similar to early Funkadelic, but that's certainly not a bad thing.
