It was quite suprising for me to find that this album was yet to be reviewed, as I believe it is BHG's most triumphant album - introducing us to Jimmy Pop's comical lyrical talent, which technically we heard on use your fingers first but I stopped listening after 5 tracks. This album I am pleased to say is very different from the first album, introducing a new rock front to the band. By the way the trackisting is at the bottom before you start Bitchin'.
For starters, Jimmy Pop amd Lupus Thunder recruited three new band members, who actually decided to play their own instruments. Evil Jared on the bass, Spanky G on drums and DJ Q-ball on the decks and keyboards.
About half the songs on this album stand out as superior in writing and listenability. Track 1, 'Kiss me where it smells funny' is an in your face rock song, and we here Lupus' trademark guitar for the first time. A small memorable lick/riff repeated through the song with a more chordy outro. It's so simple yet works so well. there are other good rocker on here such as 'I wish I was Queer so I could get chicks'- the lyrics are definately the best part of this song, 'the only smoked meat the only sausage I would eat is made by Jimmy Dean' for example.
Q-balls use of samples on tracks such as Run DMC's 'It's tricky' hugely metaled up, along with back up vocals make this song well worth a listen; also his fast 'wickedy wicks' on Kiss Me where i smells funny, Fire water burn and I wish I was Queer.... please one's ear more than expected. The songs are just layer upon layer of simplicity, still - absolute genius.
There is also a more melodic sense to the album - Fire water burn is a slow rock ballad, which sold in masses over in Scandinavia, and became almost a national anthem. It consists of four chords (Gmj, Cmj, Dmj and Emn) with Jimmy performing his signature monotone with some hilarious lyrics. (I'm hung like planet Pluto hard to see with the naked eye but if i crashed into uranus I would stick it where the sun don't shine), another awesome track. Your only frineds are make believe comes from the same concept as fire water burn, yet seems to drag on far to long, with not enough changes for a seven minute song. Still a great track.
We still get some bouncier hip-hop from the gang with personal favourite 'Lify your head up high'(and blow your brains out) and asleep at the wheel, which both have a techno style to them - and yes the beats have been vastly improved since Use you fingers, so It doesnt sound like someone highly under the influence with a Yamaha home organ and a tape recorder.
The other tracks are just bog standard BHG material, with tracks such as 'going nowhere slow' being a standard punk song, and boom is a good taste of rap-metal album filler. so if you like your techno rap stuff then purchase this album. If you're into the rockier BHG....buy this album also. In fact - You probably couldnt' make a more alternative band so everyone should own this album.
