Review Summary: Leaving my roots behind

Crown Shyness shows Trash Boat forgoing a large amount of the pop punk in their sound to bring their hardcore edge to the forefront. The big, catchy choruses are still there, to be sure, but this time around there’s a different energy to the whole thing. Lead vocalist Tobi Duncan puts a lot more grit and force behind his vocals than before, screaming his way throughout the album. Drums are more commanding than ever, driving each track along with blast beats and overall tight playing. This heavier approach fits Trash Boat surprisingly well; they sound more confident as a band than they ever have been. Compared to two years ago, when the group was just trying to make themselves standout in the saturated U.K scene, it's a noticeable improvement on all fronts and an affirmation of their place in the scene. At the very least, it puts them above the question “Woah, is their name really from Regular Show!?”

quick write up/soundoff for this new Trash Boat. Don't have much more to add other than it's very good. Next week, Trophy Eye's will definitely get more than one paragraph!

Favorite part is the bass leading into the first verse on "Old Soul".

actually reminds me of Trophy Eyes' last album at times + does this look infected/Chuck era Sum 41

Edit: fixed

just some little suggestions for things I noticed. just trying to help. I dug your attempt for a more concise approach though, as well as the clever way you closed the review.

Album kicks ass, big step up from their previous effort, and hopefully it gets them a bit of traction with how many bands are kicking around the scene at the minute.

Thanks for the many suggestions, Atari! I got around to all of them I think.

Freddie, I think the new Trophy Eyes album is actually gonna be pretty good. I'm convinced it's a grower and that the singles might show off what the album really is, as it also feels like the two songs lead into and start off from other tracks. Give it a chance, I'm sure it'll be better than you're thinking.

Groundking, same. Trash Boat don't really have as much recognition as some other U.K bands, but with this new album, I'm sure heads will start turning. It's a killer, front to back.

Great album, they sound like early 2000's post-hardcore bands but with a more modern sheen on it. "Nothing New" in particular just slams so hard.

I mean have these fuckers got anything remotely important to say and say it with conviction, integrity, passion brought about by a resolute compunction of unbounded righteous indignation.

Nope they’ll be a bunch of cunts, call themselves trash boat and let the hapless sput brat hoarde lap it up like the mindless inept saps they’ve always been.

1 it morons.

Favourite album of the year so far. Absolutely addictive. Played it through 3 times yesterday.

Hopefully they blow up from here. They absolutely deserve it because this collection of songs contains more talent, passion, hooks and potential than anything else in the scene right now.
