Review Summary: A promising solo effort from the front man of Demonic Resurrection.

Not many of you will know who The Demonstealer is, that is because he is the front man for Indian Death Metal band Demonic Resurrection, and with this album, is launching himself into a solo career. In his profile on his own label website www.demonstealerrecords.com, he states that experiments with all types of music, from industrial rock, to the Indian Death Metal his band is known for, all the way to techno music. Regarding that, I felt that this might be a fun listen, but also might be quiet an ugly release. Once I got The Demonstealer’s debut …And Chaos Will Reign…, I noticed that some parts were quiet amazing, but others were quiet boring, and bland.

The first song And There is a Calm Before Every Storm experiments with Doom vocals, and a spacey atmosphere created by the calm usage of the guitar, and the production, which gives the song a great soundscape. About two-thirds of the way through the song clean vocals come to the mix, which definitely show Demonstealer has range, going from high-pitched, almost pop-punkish vocals, to incredibly low, Doom vocals. The song definitely gets a thumbs up from me, due to such excellent delivery and dark atmosphere.

However, not all of the songs on this album would end up as well as the two minute song And There Is A Calm Before Every Storm. The three songs after that are all tedious, boring, Indian Death Metal which rely on repetition and laziness. Whirlwinds of Devastation being the worst of all, combining bland guitar work with lifeless drum programming and incredibly boring Harsh Vocals, and Seething Pain That Leaves No Scars at least has energetic guitar work, and fitting keyboard wankery. The Empty Wasteland almost sounds like something you would find on a generic Deathcore CD, plus some unwelcome electronics.

Elegy for The Grieving One is a slow and melodic guitar solo track. The track takes advantage acoustic guitars and leaving the keyboard on “Choir” mode, giving it an optimistic atmosphere, like saying it's darkest before the dawn. Then A Solidtary Mass Of Flesh is that hope for a glimpse goes down the drain, with rampaging, apocalyptic, doom, a gloomy world with no hope of escape. The two tracks work together as a pair excellently, and create a solid duo. Leaving one song left on the album…

In Desolation For Me, which would be the acoustic ballad, starts with lyrics “And there is no redemption for me…”. The song has a depressing atmosphere, and is very emotional, with a nice violin lick coming in the middle of the verses. After verse two, there is a very fitting guitar solo that is short, sweet, and to the point, as it stays with in a manageable length of 20 seconds. The album ends in the same way it began, with the use lower-pitch vocals in the beginning and middle of the song, and ending off with higher pitched clean vocals.

…And Chaos Will Reign… is a promising debut for Demonstealer, with plenty of wonderful experimentation and influences, along with quite a few mess-ups. One error of the album, which I forgot to mention in the review, is that it’s only 7 songs long, and should not be called a full-length album, more a starter EP. Some of this contains really high quality stuff, but the uninspired mid-section keeps it from being rated any higher.

Pros:
Great Clean Vocals
Some good guitar work
Atmosphere
Showers in potential for more.

Cons:
A uninspired mid section
Lifeless programmed drums
Bland Harsh Vocals

This is good for a first, but you desperately need to proofread this. I lost count of typos somewhere around the 4th paragraph. And don't forget the one in the heading either.
Content is good, but far too simple. Don't resort to just describing a song without actually giving your opinion on it. Say why something about the album is good and use examples is usually a good way to go.

I listened to this earlier today and honestly thought it was around the upper three, lower fours as far as the rating goes. The mid-section wasn't bad in my opinion, but the clean vocals near the end were sorta wonky.

His harsh vocals kind of bore me, but oh well. Very promising debut.

It was detailed enough to cover the important parts of the album, or EP, whichever, while short enough to keep my attention throughout as opposed to boring the crap out of me.

You did a good job on it, in other words. : D
