Review Summary: "On Another Level" surges with unbelievably dark and twisted electronica, in all its simplicity.
Blackwhole is:
Mr. Cee (programming)
Mogrigo (sampling & mixing)
DJ Kent (occasional mixing)
Blackwhole have had their heads in the gutter for way too long. In 2006, shortly after erupting in the mainstream world they have grown into true pioneers of the dance genre. Mr. Cee and Mogrigo have talent, no doubt. Not only has this type of genre exceeded its electronic counterpart, it has brought an entirely new focus to the table, to what will be soon known as "Deep house". A smooth combination of peaceful electro and jazz.
"On Another Level" surges with unbelievably dark and twisted electronica, in all its simplicity. The only way to truly enjoy work like this is sealing yourself in a dark room with surround sound and a diaper. The depth is so perfect its scary, and the beats are little more than just something out of a Frankenstein movie. Its brilliance in a box, least to say. Each song has its own original story to tell, like opening up a Stephen King book and hiding under your bed, anxiously waiting for the next thrill or jolt. Songs like "Midday Sermon" will definitely have you drawn to its details, through rising sirens, condemned beats and out-of-this-world synth effects. "King of the Surface", "1000 Seconds" & "Limitations" all share the same creep factor, constantly oozing in and out with spectacular mixing work. My only concern, and weak point of the album, is its strength of forbiding atmosphere and clever headphone-to-headphone work (which can be quite the fright). Some say Blackwhole is electronica. Some say its house. Some say its soundtrack. I say its music.
