I would normally say MxPx is a punk band but on this album they are more like pop-punk.Thats why many people dont like this album. This is probably MxPx's worst album.7 years before this album, they had an album called Life in General, and is was one of there best albums. Its was not so poppy and there were not many song about girls(maybe a few).Even when they came out with the bad album they picked a terrible song to make their single,Everything sucks(when your gone).I know most of the songs arent real good but I would of thought they would pick a song like "play it loud" or "well adjusted".But lets get started on the tracklist.

tracklist
1.Before
2.Play it loud
3.Well adjusted
4.Its alright
5.Brokenhearted
6.First day of the rest of our lives
7.Everything sucks(when your gone)
8.Quit your live
9.More everything
10.Kings of hollywood
11.The capital
12.On the outs
13.Dont walk away
14.You make me,me
15.Youre not alone
16.After

before-This isnt really a song. Its has a backround of some songs on the album. Its like an intro.I cant really rate this intro thing cause its not really a song.
N/A out of N/A

play it loud-This is one of the few songs that are good on this album. It starts out as the singer yelling something then the song gets fast.Mike(the singer)has a low pitched voice in this song. But this song doesnt really fit in with most of the other songs because its good.
9 out of 10

well adjusted-This song is another one of the few songs that are good. Its starts out with the drums which is pretty cool, then the guitar comes in while the drums still have that same song. The verse is what makes this song so good because its kinda loud but not to loud. But the chorus is just average.
9 out of 10

its alright-This is where the album gets poppy and starts sounding the same.It starts with the drums like "well adjusted did then the verse is a little boring. Then the chorus is kinda weird because its just a guitar and vocals for half of it which is boring.
4 out of 10

brokenhearted-This song is to poppy.I dont like how the intro is because it starts out with "im brokenhearted"the 1st secound of the song. And the song is so stupied and its like just 1 long verse through the whole song. I just cant stand this song.
2 out of 10

first day of the rest of our lives-Another poppy song like "brokenhearted".It also sounds simalar to "brokenhearted"musicly. But I will give the song a little more credit because theres a verse and a chorus. But this song still sucks.
4 out of 10

everything sucks(when your gone)-I have no clue why the picked this song for their single. Its another poppy song. Its also not real fast or at least medium. Its medium slow and who picks a song like that for a single. They should of picked "play it loud" or "well adjusted"for their single.
4 out of 10

Quit your life-This is an accustic song about a girl.It is a poppy song but its not as bad as the other songs. Its slow and calm which is something different that MxPx tried. But most albums have a slow song like this. Its still not a song I listin to much.
5 out of 10

more everything-This is another poppy song but its better. Its more like a pop-rock song.It has an awseame guitar intro then the drums come in with a basic fast intro. Its one of the few songs I like.
8 out of 10

kings of hollywood-This has a cool simple bass intro. This song is not as bad as tracks 4-7 but its not as good as tracks 2 and 3.Its not real fast but its got a nice flow.
8 out of 10

the capital-This song has fast drums and a gool guitar intro and riff. But its not as catchy. Its still not a punk song, its pop-punk.This song is ok but I dont listin to it as much as I do with tracks 2 and 3
5 out of 10

on the outs-This song sounds simalar to "the capital".But its boring. You can tell just by hearing the intro. The verse and chorus have the same speed and sound which makes it boring.
5 out of 10

dont walk away-This is another poppy song. Its also kinda slow like the speed of "Quit your life".But its not an accustic song.It has a piano riff that stands out alot because most of MxPx's song dont have pianos. This song doesnt grab my attension alot.
5 out of 10

you make me,me-Another poppy song. Its a little faster than "dont walk away"but its still a little slow.It blends in with the other songs on this album,so im not going to say the same things ive been saying about the previous songs
5 out of 10

youre not alone-This song sounds really simalar to "you make me,me".Its another poppy song and I wont listin to it alot. Its just like most of the other songs. Not very good
5 out of 10

after-this is an outro to the cd like the intro "before"and it sounds mostly the same as it too.
N/A out of N/A

Overall this was a terrible album. It may sound like MxPx sucks but they dont.Their a awseame punk band but this was the only album that was poppy.I wouldnt reccemend you to buy this album but buy any other album by MxPx.Life in general or panic would be the best.

One of the few pop-punk albums that can claim to give Dookie a run for its money....

I bought Ten Years and Running as my first MxPx album which contains some of the highlights of MxPx's career of pop-punk(Which they always have been, they were never straight punk) then this one was given to me as a christmas gift and I can see a major difference and how BEA is a huge step downward for this band. Too many of their songs on this album seemed to lean in a pop direction which doesn't suit them well.

I didn't really like this review though, saying "This song is faster than "x" song" or "This song sounds the same as X song but isn't as good" doesn't really make for a good review. If I was someone who hadn't heard this album this would not be helpful at all because you basically compared the songs to other songs I might not have ever heard which leaves me with nothing to decide if I would want to buy the album or not. Be more specific next time.

Not a very good review... But that's okay. This isn't a very good album.

MxPx got worse and worse over time, but I'll always enjoy Play It Loud.

This is the worst that i've heard MxPx. And it is def. an album you'd want to show your g/f to get her into MxPx. Im a bit dissapointed, but not to where i think that i wasted my money, i'll still listen to it a few more times.

This is a great CD, it's got some of my all time favorites like Well Adjusted, Quit Your Life, and Everything Sucks (When You're Gone).

I don't care that the album is really poppy, it's an EXCEPTIONAL pop CD, but it's the mixing that bothers me. The mixer dude used too much d-esser or whatever and now some of Mike's words are messed up. It feels too clean.

On the other hand, some of the mixing and production is really good, I like the guest singers and how they're mixed, I like the keyboards... which is a first for me, and I like the weird instruments like the slide guitar and the 12 string bass.
