Ash are a band from Ireland that I'm sure everyone has heard of, so why are there no Ash reviews on this site??? Whatever, Meltown was realeases in 2004 and was voted the 8th best album of the year by Kerrang! magazine.
Ash consist of two gutarists, a bassist and a drummer, one of their gutarists is fit, Charlotte Hatherly, oh yeah.
Anyways on with the review.
Ash start the Album with Meltdown, which pretty much sums up the rest of the album, it's rock alright but just a little lighter, pop rock. Meltdown is a sensational song, and if you want to compare it to something they kind of sound like Blink 182, except more British and a little maturer.
Orpheus, the single follows next, which has a cool drum and bass opening and a high lifting chorus, Tim Wheeler on vocals sounds really light and he is constantly mixed with Charlotte, meaning the lyrics always have a higher pitched feminine edge. Which works brilliantly.
Evil eye and Clones are two of the strongest songs on the album, Evil eye especially. Clones changes the sound of the album to make it a bit darker which is good, and this is where some of the soaring guitar solos come in. Talking of which, Vampire love has one of the best solos on the album.
Meltdown has its mellow moments. Starcrossed and Won't be saved, are both mellow uplifting ballads featuring Hatherly on piano. Starcrossed is particualary powerful and sounds like a slightly more uplifting Feeder song.
After its first three songs you may turn off in the middle at the weaker songs like, Detonater, Renagade cavaclade, andOut of the blue. But go back to them and you'll see that they are good enough songs in their own right.
Ash really turn up the volume for this album, I would recommend it to the fans of the bands listed below and anyone who has heard any of their singles, because trust me, that's what the album sounds like.
For fans of.
Feeder, Blink 182, My Chemical Romance.
