Review Summary: One of the best examples of modern shoegaze
I hope I'll see you very soon
To say I love you
You know I do
To say I love you
You know it's true
It’s hard to stay objective on this album. From the first time I’ve heard
Around the Sun live it takes the place of my favourite shoegaze song of all time. It breaks though all my defences and hits me somewhere so deep, where even
Slowdive’s
Crazy for You never could.
Encounters collects everything great in shoegaze and adds this unique space-ness to create something truly magical. Album is not as variative and may seem a bit boring at times in comparison to
Odes to the Void, but not for me. Listening to
Encounters makes you feel similar to
Souvlaki Space Station’s unique emotion. It also inherits some lyrical concepts from classic shoegaze, like these three lines from
Her Hands are Weak make the whole song:
Cold wind blows at mountain's peak
Her hands are weak
At the autumn's shores the leaves have time to speak
Main lyrical themes, like eternity, vagueness, mystery and grace blend in with space-y, “out there” sound to make one of the best modern shoegaze statements. It’s the first time I’m truly proud for Russian scene.
Life on Venus really prove genre is alive and help develop it into something way more incredible.
If you get lost
Follow the shine
At any costs
I'll give you a sign
