Review Summary: Gwen Stacy made a strong debut, a band with a very good potential. Solid breakdowns, cool riffs and good screaming. That’s the formula of this band.
As a fan of metalcore, and of Gwen Stacy, and because no one has made a review of this album I decide to make my first review of “The Life I Know”. i saw this band playing live like 4 months ago, they sound really good. The vocals are nice and the show was energetic. Gwen Stacy is a new band from Indiana. Making their efforts to consolidate in the hardcore-metalcore scene, The Life I Know is a little generic but enjoyable metalcore album.
The album starts with "The Path To Certainly", in my opinion the best song in the album, beginning with powerful drums and then introducing the “metalcore” riff, the guitar is pretty catchy and with changing riffs through the song, the chorus is catchy and the bassist makes a nice roll singing the soft parts. The screaming is really good, as in almost all the album.
In "If We Live Right, We Cant Die" Wrong, the guitar starts with a dancing riff, then it comes the screaming that hits you right away in your face and it continues to scream: “This is the life I know” after this the song gains its rhythm. Again a good chorus and solid breakdowns. The end just makes you want to move your head with the vocals saying: “do you expect this to be easy?”
"The Fear in Your Eyes", the second best song found here. The screams are really good with parts singing “I decide who will live and who will die”, the lyrics in the album are average, but it has strong parts like in Playing God is Playing for Keeps when it says “this is an assassination, no one is leaving here alive.”
The drums are average, but in songs like "Playing God is Playing for Keeps" its when it sounds the best, with fast parts. "Sleeping in the Train Yard" it begins with some effects, making it sound different from the other album, it’s a nice song for resting the breakdowns, and the intro is what makes the song interesting, then it comes the rough screaming which is really powerful singing “Welcome to the other side..”. Very nice song.
Gwen Stacy made a strong debut, a band with a very good potential. Solid breakdowns, cool riffs and good screaming. That’s the formula of this band. Its not a buying album, maybe you should download the recommended tracks and if you like it you should listen to all of it. This is my first review as I said so I would like if you can tell me what can I improve.
