4.0 excellent | ReefaJones | March 11th 21 | One of Beefhearts best albums, maybe THE best. Seriously underrated.

4.0 excellent | MrHarrison | July 13th 18 | This, like all of the Captain's records, is a massive grower, the difference is that because this one is much more straightforward (almost normal!) you assume it won't be. But it really, really is.

2.0 poor | EasterInTheBatcave | August 14th 16 | Tired of living off welfare and magnanimous parental donations, Beefheart released the decidedly commercial The Spotlight Kid. It's hated by all the band members; they cite the boring, simplistic compositions and Beefheart's dictatorial attitude. Ultimately, it's not a terrible album, but it's nowhere near the brilliance of Trout Mask or Lick My Decals; it's pretty dull, yes, and while Beefheart gives it his best shot, the band sounds uninspired. "Alice in Blunderland" and "There Ain't No Santa Claus on the Evenin' Stage" are the best cuts.
