Kevin Drew makes a break up album, that pretty much sounds like another Broken Social album -- but it's brilliant. 'Spirit If...' on it's own is hardly a Kevin Drew album, it's still created much in the vein of his other band (who technically "present" this record). A bunch of established artists come together to create some all around rock goodness. But something about it all seems distinctly him, like no one else could create this sound, it all comes back to Kevin Drew. 'Farewell to the Pressure Kids', 'Tbtf', 'Fucked Up Kid' are on spot BSS tracks, while 'Safety Bricks' and 'Lucky Ones' sound like a nice mix of The Boss and Dinosaur Jr. All the tracks here are stand out, though as a whole, the album can run a bit long (66 mins) and Drew's ideas at times, can't be saved from his own eccentric experimentation. Other times, it's just that which makes it beautiful.

This is a (not so i guess) surprisingly excellent album. Kevin Drew is slowly becoming one of my favorite voices in rock music, and this record only further solidifies his stellar work in Broken Social Scene. It can be argued that the first half of album (tracks 1-8) is definitely the stronger half, but really with the exception of "Big Love", I enjoy every track here thoroughly. This is definitely recommended and may see itself changing to a 4.5 if I keep up my torrid listening pace

Every Broken Social Scene fan should have this in their library. This may take a little warming up to but it is just as amazing as the BSS albums. Kevin Drew exploits his style throughout. That is the resemblance of songs like Cause = Time and Stars and Sons from You Forgot it in People.
Favorites: Frightening Lives, Gang Bang Suicide, Bodhi Sappy Weekend, TBtF actually all of them so f*ck it.
