they search for new chords on this one because they will never change their powerful repetitive formula so most of the songs feel suspended and weird, which is cool, but usually suspended-sounding music eventually resolves somewhere, whereas Revelations just chugs ahead and revels in the tension. side one in particular sounds strangely like Voivod at times for that reason, super murky, sloganeering and tritone obsessed. original bassist left the band after this one? or because of the critical reception to it? but it's the most experimental of the first three and I cherish it tbh

I realize that this band is a "love them or hate them" type of band, but I certainly do not hate this record. Out of Killing Joke's earlier discography, I'd consider this their weakest link - average, dissonant and noisy post-punk songs without any real distinction. The production simply does not sound good to me throughout most of it, however there are a few tunes, particularly 'The Hum' and 'Chop Chop' that save this album from it being a disaster, along with a few other moments every now and then.

Saw these guys at the Ritz in New York, 1984. It was an amazing evening and the music was a huge part of that. Never forget being in the pit on this one....
