At first glance this album is an enjoyable, if not overly dense at times, showcase of 'all things jaga'. Once the compositions are unpacked though and the intricate details begin to show their faces the wall of crazy sounds gives way to a perfectly painted mural. Minor drum fills act as preludes to the next beat change, melodies and chord progressions are mixed, matched and teased. What's amazing is throughout the ~50 minutes of runtime, the album never sticks to one idea for an overly long amount of time, but there is a sense of cohesion throughout all songs, both in structure and actual melody that is seldom found in fusion music. Even more rare is how subtle it all is, preventing that "i feel like i'm listening to the same song over and over again" feeling that comes with this territory so often. In summary: I'm blown away.

Super weird, synth heavy, irresistibly catchy without having any hooks, and way better than anything they?ve released since
What We Must. Also stands head and shoulders most contemporary post rock being churned out these days.

My first Jaga album and one that I admittedly went back and forth on before I came to an important realization. The sheer amount of detail by the musicians and the extraordinary depth in the instrumentation really begs the
listener to lend their best attention. Layers and layers of subtleties build into a bold final product somewhere between Jazz, prog and electronic (an extra dose of the synth). The strength lies in the loud, jarring arrangements
which build up extensively and make me think of flying through the brightest city lights in a spaceship. That being said the softer parts, such as the beginning of Shinkansen, provide relief to the brain. Those calming passages
are needed as there is plenty to digest in the stronger tracks Starfire, Big City Music and Prungen.

It's ok muzak. Nothing that rocked my world but it seems like it was made for travelling around on Tokyo's trains (where i am now) so it's ok I guess
