Having heard basically half the album it's alright. Far better than All Hope Is Gone overall if lacking the insta-hits that AHIG and vol 3 had. Will reserve full judgement until the entire album is out/I get an advance copy to review.

Probably the lowpoint in their career so far imo, sorely disappointed given the long wait. Shallow production, recycled riffs from older ideas and over half of the album sounds like a stone sour tribute band playing an idea of what they think Slipknot should sound like, ill pass on this.

This is going to be probably their best album to date.. the perfect mix between Slipknot and Vol. 3 with some of the best elements of IOWA and AHIG (yeah, even that album did have some cool moments).. and fuck, but Custer is a fucking beast of a song

For Slipknot, .5 The Gray Chapter is a logical step for a band fraying at the seams. With an hours' run-time, Slipknot's 2014 effort mulls and stagnates in the middle while keeping the band's rather signature percussive sound. Even the intro track, which used to bring a level of psychotic, mixed with repetitive themes doesn't bring together the same mentally deranged nu-metal image often displayed by the band. rFor fans, it's a simple (even if slightly middling) record from a band they've waited so long to hear new music from. For those who don't like the group's past efforts and are over the pre-release circus. It's not as great as the hype, band, press suggests.
