Review Summary: Spitalfield is one of Victory Record's best kept secrets. The catchy lyrics and solid instrumental's make Spitalfield's Remember Right Now a must have for any pop punk fan.

Spitalfield is seen by many as a diamond in the rough for the pop punk music scene. I agree with this statement. Spitalfield has a way with making very catchy songs, with solid lyrics and better than average instrumentals. These qualites are best exemplified in their first realese on Victory Records, Rember Right Now. This album does not do anything revolutionary, but it does combine typical pop punk elements to make a very solid record. I will now go track by track and summarize and rate each song.

1. Those Days You Felt Alive- This song starts out with a simple, yet catch guitar riff. After a few seconds of just the riff, the rest of the intruments kick in, and the song take off. After the high energy intro, it goes to a light guitar part with a pretty cool bassline for the verses. It are these transitions from high powered guitar that make this song flow very nicely, and not get repetative. The lyrics are pretty good as well. 4.5/5

2. Kill the Drama- This is one of the heaviest and fastest songs on the album. It has good lyrics, and a very catchy chorus. The verses are alright, nothing too special about them, but the chorus saves the song. Spitalfield does a good job changing the dynamics throughout their songs to keep things fresh. One thing that may turn off the listeners in this song, and all the others, is the fact that the bass has a very crunchy tone. I personally like it, but i have friends who have rendered this album unlistenable because of it. 4/5

3. Five days and Counting- My personal favorite off the album. Starts off with 2 guitar parts playing harmonics and a riff which blends nicely. The melody of this song is extremely catchy. The verse is laid back, while the chorus and bridge are high energy, great lyrics, catchy instrumentals, great song. 5/5

4. I loved the way she said LA- This song is their single. It starts off with a few strums on the guitar, then kicks in with the rest of the instruments kick. The versus are just bass and guitar, with a driving, clever bass line. The chorus and ending are both high energy and fun to listen to. One thing that makes this song stick out is the background vocals, which add a whole new color to the song. 4.5/5

5. Stolen from Some Great Writer- This song took a while to catch on. Tempo wise, it is the slowest of the first 5 songs. It starts off with the bass and drums for a few measures, than the rest of the instruments come in, then the verse begins. The chorus and versus are both pretty powerful and catchy. There is a "mini bass solo" in this song, which is really cool and not typical of bands in this genre. Still, this song seems to lack that one thing that takes it from being good to great. 3.5/5

6. In the Same Lifetime- This song is the "ballad" of the album. Many other artists of this genre try to slow things down and more times than often fail. Spitalfield however, makes a very nice song, due to the singer;s vocal ability. He isn't great, but he is above average. He does a nice job singing with passion and energy, even though the song is slow. Plus, the instumentals at theending are pretty cool. 4/5

7. Am I Ready- The song starts off with a few chords played on acoustic, making you think the song is going to be slow again. Then the drums are hit, and the instuments start a powerful intro. Next, the verse starts off with bass and vocals. The song transistions with few measures of a catchy guitar riff. The chorus is solid, and the brigde is awesome. This song has some of the best lead guitar work on the album. In my opinion, this song has the album's best lyrics. 5/5

8. Fairweather Friend- This is the one song on the album that i haven't really connected with. It is a pretty generic song, some would call this a "filler song." Though i don't think the song is so bad that i consider it filler, i definately think it is the weakest song on the album. The instruments don't really stand out, and the bass solo thing sounds too similar to the one in track 5. 3/5

9. You can't Stop- The intro in this song starts off pretty quick which leads to the verse. The verse is bass and drum driven, which blends very nicely and is very catchy. THe chorus is pretty good as well. The ending is very cool. One thing i love about this song, is the dynmaics and tempo of the songs sort of coincide with what the lyrics are saying. 4/5

10. Make my Heart Attack- Don't be fooled by the lame song title, it is actually a really nice tune. It is the second slowest song on the album, but the instuments are in full swing. The verses start off slow, and build as time goes on, and eventuallu explodes into the chorus. I enjoyed how they used different drum beats and vocals to mix thing up on the otherwise, repetitive chorus.4/5

Overall this is a very solid album that i would recommend to any pop punk/ emo fan. If you are looking to be wowed by a revolutionary album with awesome lyrics you won't like this album. Also, the bass may get on your nerves based on you personal opinion of what a bass should sound like. I don't know if this album deserves a 4, but I think it is better than a 3.5 so I rounded up.

OK for a first, but a little non-descript. You described the technical side well :thumb: , next time try and incorporate a little more of the 'feeling' of the album too. You mention the lyrics are great - why? What are they about?
You need to add the tracklist. See The Ataris review by lunch for tips on a pop-punk review

I think if you go into your profile and scroll down to where it lists your reviews, it allows you to edit them if you want to. Click on edit and it will have a place where you can put the tracklist.
