4.5 superb | Insurrection | May 1st 14 | There's a reason why "Air" is one of the most popular pieces of all time. Despite it's relatively simplistic
nature, it contains some of the most beautiful, heart-wrenching melodies Bach has ever written; and
these are intertwined with blissful counter-melodies creating a deeply euphoric sensation for the
listener (there's a reason it's played at so many weddings!). The rendition here is unlike the well-known
arrangement "Air on the G String", though, in that the use of harpsichord is present throughout. It adds
an interesting texture to the wonderfully layered strings, and a welcome sense of antiquity to the music
itself.
The rest of the suite is exceptional as well. The contrast between the eclectic, powerful "Overture"
leading into the tender, ethereal "Air" is a perfect juxtaposition. At only 24-minutes, this suite is
something no fan of classical should miss out on.

3.5 great | Do I have somfing n my face? | February 8th 23 | a largely inoffensive suite with the ouverture the best piece, air is deservedly famous though too morose, and an ending gigue that reignites the rather lackluster iii and iv movements. generic background classical for your film

4.0 excellent | musichub | April 21st 22 | The second movement (or "Air on a G String") clearly outclasses everything else here, taking time to slow down and focus on the beauty of the melody. Everything else is really good in its own right (sort of like a triple-meter Lully motet, in some ways), but there's a reason this piece is remembered for *the* one movement.
