(Funk Metal) Incubus - Enjoy Incubus E.P.
The first release on the Immortal/Epic label for incubus. this is little E.P. is a remix of a few of the songs on the Fungus Amongus album, and Enjoy in my opinion, is one of the greatest releases from Incubus. altho it is quite short, it still packs a punch. enough with the talk about what you already knew. lets get on with the review.
1 You Will Be A Hot Dancer
the opening song to Enjoy and Fungus. a great song. great bass lines all throughout the song. the vocals are very good from brandon, but i feel the chorus with the "don't you" as a background sound is slightly off. i don't think it fits well with the song. a nice little sweeping solo towards the end, doesn't last very long mind, but still, a good touch to a good song. only downside is the "don't you" sounds during the chorus i think. sounds a tad corny. they have cool little snippets at the end of the songs, this one of a kid calling santa a fat ass, quite humorous.
4/5
2 Shaft
great little intro to the song, and definately an improvement on the original. nothing wrong with this song at all. great bass lines again and excellent vocals from Mr. Boyd. another little solo towards the end, going back into the original riff and added scratching on the turntables. a short song, but good none the less. maybe they could have done a remix of The Answer instead of this, as i don't feel there was much wrong with the original really, but it is an improvement.
4.5/5
3 Take Me to Your Leader
yet again, an improvement on the original. one of the heavier riffs on the album/E.P. a great song. i can't praise this enough. i love the changes, from fast, abrasive to soft, and funky, then back to the hard riff. brilliant. great solo again, amazing vocals as usual. the song finishes, with a girl singing sweetly, which perfectly fits for the next song, Version. excellent song, one of the best on the cd i think.
5/5
4 Version
i can't fault this song. a soft sweeping intro, then in come the vocals. great vocals, and great lyrics. i think it's about creating your own world, and how you would live in it, what you would create etc. brandons vocals on this are great, and the solo is one of the best mike has done. it's only short again, but it fits so perfect to the song. the changes are fast, and it works well. the song ends with some guy talking really fast, and asking his friends to copy him. an excellent song.
4.5/5
5 Azwethinkweiz
this is my favourite incubus song ever. i love the intro, it fits perfect. then when brandon whistles off, it's just too good. the chorus is just amazing, and i love the bass line. dirk on top form here. this song is perfect in everyway, in my eyes, there is nothing wrong with it. lyrically, it's not that great, but individually, the music is fantastic. brandons vocals are great in this song, some of the best he has done. lots of vocal range. the little solo towards the end is just divine. this song is divine. this isn't a "rock out" song, it's just funky dory to the extreme. brandon says 'Thursday Night we smoked indica, and Azwethinkweizm was born' at the end, if you were wondering.
5/5 (essential track!)
6 Hilikus
again, a massive improvement on the original, a near perfect song. the bass lines are fantastic again, and brandons vocals are top notch. the added scratching fits perfect at the chorus when brandon sings 'you've got to be' this song has the best solo on the album, so great, just makes you want to play air guitar with your broomstick. the general feel of the song is better than the original, more upbeat, more clear sound, and it just sounds so polished. another excellent remix and song.
5/5
7 Bonus Track (not actually the 7th song, it's on the end of Hilikus)
not sure if anyone else had this song on their copy, but it's an instrumental. some very weird sounds, reminds me of Calgone, the last 12 minutes. very similar, with some great, soft and relaxing sounds. it's 4 minutes long, longer than battlestar and magic, and worth a listen to. some interesting sounds to this, and quite enjoyable
4/5
random lyric: So I took a walk outside with my new found friend and the knowledge imbibe. I figured I'd find another with the same attitude, yes, then maybe I could talk to someone other than myself!
overall album rating: 5/5
this album is very bass based. lots of fantastci bass lines in each song, and each song has a great solo placed towards the end aswell. it's almost perfect, but You Will be a Hot Dancer fails to impress compared to the rest. i hope you guys will enjoy (cheap pun) this cd as much as i have, and i hope you can get a good feel for it, and maybe run out and get it after reading all this.
this is my first review, go easy.
