Review Summary: The Ukrainian "Blood Sugar Sex Magik"
This is one of the Ukrainian punk-folk band Vopli Vidopliassova's best albums. It is on par with "Blood Sugar Sex Magik" for example.
It has a strong start with the track "Connection", a fast punky track. It then goes from there, including songs such as the slower, accordion-based "Sweet Little Song", the title track, the HARD RAWK "Back in the Good Old Days" and the more mellow "Mad Star". Side B begins with the fan favourite "Dancing", then moves on to other songs suck as the mellow "Music", the HARD RAWK "Flying Down" and then ends with "The Land of Dreams", a really beautiful song that has a great flourish and brings a nice end to the album.
There are many parallels between this album and "BSSM", but why? I don't know, BSSM only came out in 1991 while this album came out in 1990. It's a great thing that it came out on a Canadian label (Kobza International), it potentially could have exposed many Canadian music fans to this great band, although Canada has a big Ukrainian community.
This album really should be remastered and reissued on CD.
