Release Date: 2013 | Tracklist

When I first listened to Glass Cloud’s debut album, The Royal Thousand, I was impressed by their slightly unique blend of melodic metalcore. The heavier parts always hit hard and their more melodic sections didn't sound like they were lifted from one of the million other similar bands out there. Glass Cloud wasn't achieving anything overly ground-breaking, but they had the chops to craft a fun metal album that felt just fresh enough to genuinely appreciate.

With Perfect War Forever, Glass Cloud has now made the move to nine string guitars, and flushed out almost everything that made them stand out. This EP is littered with muddy nine string breakdown sections and is almost completely devoid of clean vocals. Most of the tracks here run together, and a listener would be hard pressed to remember much here other than some low end nine string farts. Any moments or patterns here that get your toe tapping are either repeated to death or too brief to digest.

Opening two tracks “Trapped Like Rats” and “I Dug A Grave” sound virtually identical. I couldn’t even tell where I was at on the EP without checking. They both are chalk-full of chugs and contain almost all the same stop-start bits with mediocre screams. Jerry Roush isn't really much of a harsh vocalist. The interesting (and distracting) instrumentation from the debut album masked that fact before, but now it’s apparent that he doesn't have much to offer that isn't standard-fare on this EP.

There are a couple interesting moments that stop this from being a total waste though. “How to Survive Suicide” has a softer bit with clean vocals that proves to be a nice break from being bludgeoned over the head by breakdowns. Also, “Lilac” is probably the highlight of this release, since it contains actual riffs.

Perfect War Forever is an absolute snoozefest, it's filled to the brim with breakdowns and boring low-tuned djent riffs. Perfect War Forever takes everything melodic and interesting from The Royal Thousand and swaps it for a buttload of binarycore. The production is incredibly weak, with the guitars being way too muddy and unclear in the mix. There are a couple good moments scattered across the EP, and some head-bobbing parts that wouldn't be out of place on a Danza album, but overall you're probably not going to remember anything positive after listening to this.

short review, there wasn't really much to talk about here since the band didn't do much either.

Im from Virginia myself, and when these guys started I was pretty intrigued, before I realized they were signed before proving anything. Besides the fact that they had one member from a relatively famous band.

yea wogger I knew they were a super group of sorts, I didn't know they got signed before doing anything though. Calc I didn't mind the clean vox on the royal thousand, nothing special but it kept it interesting, unlike this shit.

I wasn't being mean, I think i read something long the lines of it was a conscious decision because the guy doesn't think he sounds good or the band doesn't think he sounds good.

yeayea I didn't take it as an aggressive statement or something don't worry. I never knew that they made that move, I'll have to look it up. Might be one of the reasons they sound so homogeneous on this EP.

I saw these guys on Friday and was not impressed at all. The vocalist wasn't good like you said and on top of that he was being a douche to the sound guy during the set. The guitarist was just flailing on his nine string monstrosity, and it was clear that they need another person playing guitar as the backtracks were too prevalent throughout. It's sad because this guitarist definitely has skill and could be doing much better. Next time I will skip these guys.

I've never seen these guys live before! but yea I don't get why most bands choose to use backtracks instead of additional live performers, unless it's minimal stuff it never seems to mesh well (from my experience).

I've seen a handful indie rock bands (and The Faceless) backtrack bass and it wasn't a huge issue for them. I would just always prefer to be able to see someone playing bass as opposed to just listening to a recording. Now backtracks with keys and synth I can understand, but other than that I'm not a fan.

yeah that's exactly how I feel too, I'm not paying to listen to the recordings. I think Rings of Saturn backtracks their bass too now.

That's interesting. I wonder if they lost a member or their current bassist just isn't touring. I know The Faceless backtracked bass just because Evan wasn't touring with them.

That comment about the singing is interesting. I thought his voice was pretty solid, one of the
reasons I somewhat enjoyed their first release. I think his harsh vocals are pretty awful, even more
so here than on the first release. If he really isn't going to sing at all any more I probably won't
bother to check out their future material.

I actually really liked this for what it was, but it's definitely not as good as their debut

Why the Chariot felt I needed to be tortured by this shit stain of a band is beyond me

They just stuck out like a sore thumb. Silver Snakes was good, Rebuker was good, To The Wind was good, Birds in Row was spectacular, The Chariot was mindblowing, and Glass Cloud was shit. I feel that Glass Cloud shouldn't have been on this tour in the first place.

Really doubt this is as bad as y'all are making it out to be.
