Definitively the most emotive and confessional Derulo has ever been, Tattoos is destined to be the defining album in his career. These new tracks (particularly the ballads) are now aided by vastly improved falsetto vocals, (for the most part) more mature lyrics and impressive, often semi acoustic production that harkens back to some of the instrumentally focused vibes of his early material. Diversity is the keyword here, and from the grinding basslines and triumphant horns of the bouncing singles to more stripped back numbers, it's obvious that every ounce of Derulo's passion for his partner Jordin Sparks (who unsurprisingly appears here) has been put into this record.
