Review Summary: A murderous beast is at the end of the rainbow.
Listen to the Color is some kind of death metal/hardcore/deathcore hybrid with synthesizers straight out of psytrance, synth pop, or whatever they jolly want to do. It’s goofy stuff just for lols, and while I often cringe at synths coupled with extreme music, it all strangely works. The main display here is heaviness. The deep deathcore style gutturals provide a brutal contrast to the high shrieks sounding straight out of hardcore music. Instrumentally, speeding blastbeats, and double bass meet non-stop shreds coming from almost every genre of metal. The drummer completely slays his performance, with incredibly varied patterns.
The vocal work here is nasty, definitely not for everyone, especially those grating shrieks. The synthesizers are also definitely corny, once again, not for everyone. If you can strap along for the unexpected, this is an extremely entertaining album, with sudden breaks and dynamic shifts. If this is terrible music because of their quirks, well, that’s more of the audience’s fault for being unable to role with punches. Than again, this is quite an obnoxious album. Either you’re down for the ride or down for the count. Listen to the Color slaps the snot out of their instruments the entire time, annoyingly perhaps, but their brazen attack will not go unnoticed.
