Review Summary: It's not bad. It's definately not the best. But most of all, it's not original. Each song sounds the same. But atleast the singer doesn't whine. Atleast the lyrics are okay. But, they're just not different..
I found myself having to listen to this album over and over again. Not because of sheer brilliance, but because I just couldn't seem to distinguish one song from another. But after around ten listens, I decided I would be able to hum each of them to the correct melodies. The album opens with the track entitled Dance Halls Turn To Ghost Towns it's quite energetic and holds a good beat. I would maybe consider putting this song on at a party. But, it's nothing special.
It's Too Late and The Ultimate Coverup start with the same mix of vocals and guitar. Don't get me wrong, the vocals are superb. Probably the highlight of the album. But, if I haven't already said it enough, they have only one sound throughout the whole cd. They're just lacking in so many departments. They sound much like wannabe Spitalfield. But if they ever want to go there, then they better pull their socks up and produce something amazing for their next album.
Don't Be So Hard was definately my track of choice on this record. It gives you faith that it may pick up from this point, but, your hopes are only dashed. It has a subtle sound of individuality. But when I say subtle, I mean subtle. Subtle as in, you'll only hear it if you listen to it 20 billion times. In my mind they are not lacking in the lyrics department, as so many bands of today are. Despite being hell repetative, it's almost a good repetative because the lyrics aren't killing you.
You've Made Us Conscious was definately a high point of the album. Good choice for their first single.
The album closes with the almost unbearable Smoke and Mirrors. This track goes for a short 3 minutes and 36 seconds. Thank god. Yet, it's still the longest track on the album.
