an almost but not quite definitive document (this and the other main eels comp
eyeball of hell are still missing some of their best material) of what happened when a
bunch of degenerates in mid 70s cleveland holed up in a basement and cranked out some one
of a kind rock n roll classix. protopunk is a pretty useless term but songs like
"agitated" "anxiety" and "accident" fit the bill so perfectly that the prefix could just
be dropped entirely here, although this shit lays waste to most of what was to come a few
years later.

mostly bassless with two guitars colliding to produce some barebones primal scuzz while a
lisping smartass sneers quotables over the top, they drew almost as much inspiration from
ayler and beefheart as they did from 60s garage rock, which might partially explain the
combo of catchy hooks, mangled guitar solos and fucked upness on this comp. this feels
like the raw essence of a certain strain that has run through a lot of the more
worthwhile punk rock ever since.
