One of the things I really like about Sunn O))) is that their live material is almost always original material and not something already on a studio album. The first of these such recordings is found here on The Libations Of Samhain. It's only one song, but it's an absolute behemoth of one, lasting for exactly forty-nine minutes, made up entirely of drones, noise, and eerie ambiance. It's clear that by this point the days of completely uninteresting and ultimately pointless songs were all but over for the band. That said, this isn't the greatest recording either, dragging heavily in spots and relying on little more than repetition to get the job done. It's miles better than their early work, but miles behind their best. Thus, complete with a sixteen minute interview at the end of the record, this is certainly something that fans of the band should check out. And if you're in to heavy, eerie drone with mounds of repetition, I suppose you can't go wrong here either.
