4.5 superb | zoso33 | September 24th 13 | This album slipped passed me when it was released. Finally got a hold of it (thanks in part to Nigel Godrich being on the producer credit) and have been in awe of the transition made since "Pigeons". Easily my favorite of theirs; and after seeing a somewhat lackluster performance (although not in its entirety) at Roo a couple years back, this has reaffirmed my affection for Here We Go Magic.

3.0 good | Anthracks | May 19th 12 | I wish these guys were as whimsical as their band name. Maybe I'd like them more if their name alluded to the comparatively dull music contained within. How Do I Know is pretty fantastic, as is the video for it.

2.5 average | Shoegazer29 | May 7th 12 | It pains me to give this album a mediocre rating, seeing as I've been a big fan ever since the self-titled first started getting some press, but in my mind there's no getting around the fact that this album is surprisingly dull. Yes, it is their best produced record so far, as is expected when Nigel Godrich is attached, but the songwriting here can't hold a candle to the warped intimacy of the debut or the every genre attack of Pigeons. r"Make Up Your Mind" is a great single, but after multiple listens through A Different Ship it's the only song that sticks and the only song that employs Here We Go Magic's trademark psychedelic sonics to great effect. Here's hoping the follow-up reverts back to the jammy weirdness that once made them so exciting.
