The new Killers album. They pretty much ditched the synth pop side of Hot Fuss and ran with the stadium rock side, so it's more 'All The Things I've Done' than 'Somebody Told Me,' and it works. Think Joshua Tree and Born In The USA, but not as boring as either- the lyrics are godawful for the most part, but the choruses are great and Brandon sounds far better than on Hot Fuss, plus it benefits from not being half-crap.
I'm going to pretend I wrote this because it's my exact opinion.

Simple Minds comparisons work for anyone good.

Rolling Stone did thrash this, but then again they gave Make Believe 4 stars.

The writer of the review, Rob Sheffield, reminds me of Eliminator. A lot.

You know...people keep telling me these McDonalds fries are the shiznit. I've been hearing it for years. But for some reason I just can't find anything that makes them appealing. Their limp, bland, and too salty. Should I just lie and say they are great? Or stand up for my right to good fast food?

(yes this is another food metaphor too the album...I'm like really hungry)

^I hope it was chocolate, but if not, I don't mind, any flavor shake is good.
Hot Fuss is only half great, the second half doesn't merit listening. This on the other hand is a very solid album, not just singles followed by crap
That was the main problem with Hot Fuss the second half was dreadful while the first half was actually pretty decent. I've heard the singles and liked them but am hesitating to check this out since I only seem to enjoy the singles.

I've seen a few records in those rounded cases you talk about.

Review was Great. I really was hoping this album would live to hype but it didn't. Shoot.

I can't decide whether this is a 3.5 or a 4 yet. Its definitly much better than Hot Fuss though.

Regarding "Sam's Town": I am enjoying it very much, and as a result have a hard time calling out highlights. The title track, Enter/Exitlude, WYWY, This River is Wild, Why Do I keep Counting... yep, pretty much most of it. Bling is probably a lowpoint for me.

As a quick final note, I think Midnight Show is brilliant on the much maligned second half of "Hot Fuss".

I really, really don't like this album. I'm gonna have to go with Rolling Stones opinion on this and say that they took the classic second album step.
"ok guys, lets get serious now."
I liked the first one so much because it just felt like they were doing whatever they wanted. Ex. the random changes in all "these things that I've done."
They just thought,"fuck the rules, what sounds good?"
and frankly, Sams Town just doesn't sound good. This Message Edited On 10.23.06

Interesting tidbit, I was really reallly really bored so I picked up a copy of blender at the campus bookstore (The only excuse to every read blender) and it had an article on this where Brandon Flowers said something like "I would put this up against OK computer and Achtung Baby."

I've heard about 3/4 of the album and the singles catchy, but that guy is on crack.

Yeah, I remember him saying that 90% of the stuff out there sounds like retards writing poetry, and I was thinking, "Your lyrics aren't much better" but regardless, I've chosen to ignore anything he says from now on, and because of that, I love this album.

I was kind of dissapointed with this album. With all the hype going around about it before it was released, I thought it would top Hot Fuss, which I don't think it did. It's still a good album, but I was expecting more.
