I think we're approaching from opposite angles. I often see this used as a term of comparison to the Beatles and the Beach Boys precisely because they get to be the extremely popular ones even though this album too has some amazing stuff, hence why I too used the Beatles in my comment.
I don't think anybody would deny the 60s in general, some people just do believe that in this case the most popular things are kept in sky-high regards for good reason

The problem isn't necessarily comparing stuff to the Beatles. It's only a bit tiring to see the same stuff being cited and commented on or used as point of reference, when there's so much more that is interesting as well. There is a reason why Love's Forever Changes, Zombies' Odessey and Oracle, Beach Boys Pet Sounds are considered masterpieces and are some of the best known and talked albums from the decade though, I'm not denying that, my rant is about wishing people to open their eyes to the quirky and strange universe of Psych Pop/Rock music from the 60's, and the freshness and some of the gems you can find in it if you dig a bit deeper.

Absolutely. It's just a bit unescapable for this thread to become a "better than the beatles" vs "def not better than the beatles" push and pull.

But yeah the 60s are a goldmine for this stuff. Love, Zombies, Kinks, Left Banke, early Bee Gees, Turtles, Laura Nyro, Kaleidoscope, Monkees, Scott Walker...
