Personally I really love this band, and I think Cookie Mountain is even better then the debut Young Liars.

I can understand that TVOTR might be an acquired taste though. They really don't sound like anything else out there so its hard to get a frame of reference. You could just as easily call this band jazz-fusion as you could indie-rock or post-punk. They also use some truly unusual vocal harmonies.

What you can't deny though is that there is incredible innovation and musicianship with this ensemble. I enjoy the music immensely, even though I'm not entirely sure what I'm listening to.

I felt this was a huge leap from Desperate youth..

Almost every song has a great feel. And they didn't disappoint me live either!

This album is merely decent. These guys have some really cool songs but can get annoying rather quickly. Its funny how just around a year ago around this time people were raving about these guys. Now no one really gives a shit about them.

Solid record. Songs like I Was a Lover, Province, Hours, Dirtywhirl and Wolf Like Me are mad chilll.

don't get the hype for this album at all. i like two songs... the weird thing is, those songs are fucking awesome, while the rest of the album just ranges from average to terrible.

i think i'm a sucker for the aggressive + lazy sound on here. at least, that's how i'd say the album goes.

Some really cool sounds and genre blends, but I really didn't care for it as an album at first. SOngs seemed sub-par at first. Fortunately, it's a grower, and I'm enjoying it more and more.

Yeah, of the three TVotR records, this one takes the most time to get into properly. It's worth it, though - great record.
