Dragonforce and Sonata Arctica releasing well-received albums in 2024 is a reality I like living in.

At least the title doesn't try to explain what they do
|
| |
but everyone knows jokes are funnier when you explain them

"this is the best body of work they've had while leaning into this gimmicks"
just gave it a listen and I have to agree Odal. Space Marine Corp was great until the drill sergeant oorah shit lmao. The Killer Queen def had some moments that felt very old school DF-y. Same with Pixel Prison, especially its intro. not sure I'll ever revisit the album aside from those songs though

Glad you agree!
I think Killer Queen is the "best" song here, but Space Marine Corps made me the happiest just from how purely stupid it is lol I think in the past, I would've rolled my eyes at the drill sergeat oorah thing, but there is such a commitment to it that it's basically beyond criticism. Definitely view this album's enjoyment as being more in the short term outside of those tracks, but I am still having a great time when I throw this on. Maybe it's just nostalgia for how much I love their old stuff, but I didn't think I'd enjoy a Dragonforce album this much again

Okay I listened to a few songs and this does seem pretty great for Dragonforce standards. Space Marine Corps sounds like the end credits song of an action comedy movie and I mean that as a compliment. Production seems more reigned in on this than previous albums too.

lol it does kinda give End Credits montage/bloopers vibes
|
| |
nostalgia def plays a huge factor in still being able to tolerate this band LOL
I'll be forever chasing the high I got when I finally saw em in 2017 at a small club in DC. they were my first exposure to metal when I was a kid and being shitfaced drunk, front row, high fiving Herman and Sam and even getting to strum Herman's guitar a few times was nothing short of euphoric lmao. not sure I'd get to experience that feeling ever again

Can't believe Doomsday Party ended up being the best thing here. I'm happy they're having fun but I think they peaked 2012-14
|
| |
yeah I don't know what to think of this... I actually like this singer too
|
| |
they peaked when you were 15. they peaked when I was 15. whenever you were 15, that was the best Dragonforce.
so, Inhuman Rampage

I think its their best since Power Within, but admittedly I didn't listen too intently to anything between that an this. Granted, none of that stuff really grabbed me so there's a reason for that. I listened to Extreme Power Metal again while writing this review and this is so clearly better than that, so I really do think Warp Speed Warriors is just a good album
