'"Lumpen tunes... lyrics like 'I want to be your boyfriend oooh ooooooh ooooh ooooh oooh'"
Lol were you expecting something else? Or is it just a light week for pensioner indie'
I mean this band were at their biggest when I was 15 years old and I saw them live back then and all that, but as it goes yeah it is a light week for indie ;)

This band's lyrics and song writing were a lot better in that era anyway, that's the truth

@Valz thanks for the clarification! I’ll edit that part out when I get the chance

What more could you possibly want from these guys in 2024. Considerably better than Blink's last one imo.

I like Dookie too but "a lot better"? Come onnnn maybe the real issue is that yer not 15 anymore

Yeah, I'd say this actually around the level of Dookie. I mean, that album was literally named after shit LMAO
Green Day's lyrics have never been the most poetic, even on their better works. I think there are some particularly egregious examples here (the one pedophiles line in American Dream), but nothing so bad that it ruins the listening experience for me

'Yeah, I'd say this actually around the level of Dookie.'
Nah, 'Burnout', Basket Case' and 'Longview' are keepers with decent enough lyrics, this is near total trash.

"I started today with the new Sleater-Kinney which is really a nothing album...seems this should have been given top billing? Well...it's up next."
Yeah, I'm planning on doing a review for that album... and it's certainly not going to be a positive one :[

This album and Sleater-Kinney back to back was my most dispiriting Friday morning listen for a while, both albums really by the numbers, over produced and clunky sounding

just returning to a few songs here....
The wannabe 'Elton John meets Beatles' ballad 'Father to a Son' is really grim on a return visit, such a non song, duff nothing melody and loads of pomp.
'Bobby Sox' sounds even more like Weezer than I remember and is torture, the backing vocal refrain is chaff.
Second song still isn't very good standard Green Day imo
Finishing there
