The guitars go dundundun and the drums go pangpangpang and the vocals go rahrahrah basically

|

has he been slagging off his old stuff or something?
|
| |
He’s notorious for slagging off his old Counterparts stuff. I’m joking that it’s almost been long enough for him to do it with his END stuff now too.

Am I the only one who feels like production on this is a step back from what Putney did with Splinters? There's something about the clarity on Splinters that I really liked, this one seems a little dense, wall of sound-ish, but not in a good way

Production is something I stayed clear of in the write up, deliberately, as either you’re game for Putney’s LOUDNOISES thing or you’re not. I’ve gone back between both albums over the last few weeks and think Splinters is more balanced production wise - h the chuggas and ethereal background fuzz are more carefully weighted, whereas here the mix leans even further towards big boi heft - and overall is the better album for that reason amongst those listed in the review, BUT once you get used to the very loud perhaps more grind oriented production style, it works, especially in the context of a record that appears to seek to push at how heavy they can take their sound without it completely disintegrating. Will defo be a point of contention though I think, we shall see.
