have y'all checked his Swell Season stuff out yet? that's his most substantive pre-TWW stuff I know

^ good shit! I like some of The Frames’ stuff too (though nothing of theirs comes close to Sideways Down for me)

I've never actually dug too deep into The Frames! I should give em a proper whirl (:

Used to be you could fall behind
Used to be you could make a mistake
The way he sings this hits so hard for some reason

After four listens, still can't quite get a read on this - I really dig The Feast Of St. John and Short Life, but trying to digest everything else. I do agree that the only weakness of This Wild Willing was the occasional bloat, so the shorter runtime is nice, but not sure if this matches up in terms of "classic" moments.

Yeah, solid but lacks a little ‘spectacular’ for me too
4.0 rating - I’ll keep my 4.5 ‘Wild Wiling’ rating up though

Down On Our Knees is my jam right now

Listening again right now, very strong album, but also has something 'ordinary' about it that's just making it get lost in the shuffle of their being about five incredible albums released the last four or five weeks.

I still like 'Sure as the Rain' best - it's hard to get a total handle on and remains intriguing after now six or so listens. Great composition.

Down On Our Knees is a highlight for sure, seems like a pretty clear successor to the nihilistic, looping urban anxiety of Race to the Bottom

Album Rating: 3.7
I definitely do find Down On Our Knees to be a companion piece to Race To The Bottom, but I don't think it measures up that well - the lyrics feel much more clunky to me.

it's definitely the weaker of the two (Race might be my favorite track from TWW tbf) but i love the drive of it

Checking this out right now and I can already tell this guy has an interesting musical persona, though not show how this is gonna sit with me musically. Honestly, just heard the opener and expected this to meander down to a different kind of pool.

hysterical this has a higher avg through the sheer power of low ratings
