I'm consistently impressed at how little ajcollins knows about music

Okay I apologize because I wasn't really trying to come into here where a handful of people were enjoying an album and just shit on the band but it came off that way. It was more like--based on the one shitty ass song I've heard (sry it fuckin sucks get wreckt) I always just kind of assumed these guys were dogshit but this is now multiple places I've seen them pop up getting praised recently so maybe I was wrong about that song. But people also seem to love that song so idk, probably not for me.
I love tons of 3 chord VCVCBC shit but there's such an endless sea of samey whatever rock songs in this format there's usually something about it to stand out to make me enjoy it--interesting instrumentation, a particularly tight drum/bass groove, really good vocals, really good melody, great lyrics, SOMETHING. Hate Me is just genuinely one of those songs that gives me nothing on top of the vocals being super grating to me and the lyrics being pretty dumb, and it became one of those songs that was just an instant turn this shit off the second it starts for me when it was being so fucking overplayed.
I have like 6% of the music I listen to rated on this site and I'm never going to give a fuck enough to take the time to rate every single thing and not just what I randomly think of or come across or is a new release, so 50% prog isn't really indicative of what I listen to at all, but even if it was it's pretty meaningless as a term by itself and a pretty dumb thing to point out as ~embarrassing~ which I'm sure is a bit to a degree, but regardless, chutup.

Blue October's main things have always been Justin's voice, his lyrics, and then Ryan's piano arrangements and violin. That's always been enough to set them far apart from the crowd, and how all those elements mix isn't like your typical radio play singles unless you've got a significantly better channel on hand. Now, if none of that is your flavor, that's fair. But the warmth and depth of their current-day songs are unparalleled, and each disc has a lot of variety between atmospheric cuts, rockers and pop bangers.
And I mean, many artists that catch popularity are guilty of having a choice song or two overplayed. Can't really hold that against Justin & the gang specifically.

would going chrono be a good idea for getting into this band?

Ehhh it gives you the full experience and allows you to chart their evolution, but in terms of their modern sound, you're likely better off starting around Foiled or just jump to TIWILF.

whoever calls blue October the SAMEY as everyone else, Cleary has zero fucking idea what blue October is and probably should go talk about some MEN or something.
