"I'd prefer them switch up things at this point, sounds just like their previous stuff"
Respectfully that's just not really true. It's similar but not exact.

Way too similar regardless, Cannibal Corpse effect.

*shrug* Would rather than perfect and enhance what's working than do a shift that doesn't quite work out.
Now if we're having this same conversation next album, that's a different story.

Great review, been jamming this non stop. One of those albums that came at just the right time and is speaking directly to me. They really made a great piece of work here.

Having rawer production would benefit these guys so massively

This is much more -core-feeling than their previous stuff, definitely hits harder.

I thought Tesseract had AOTY locked up for me personally but the more I listen to this the more I love it.

i respect Pika's analysis but I love the mix on this so far
I think I am known to have bad opinions on production in metal and metal-adjacent genres

I think this is overall a much more consistent record than When I Die, but the high points (which I would argue are Defiance and Lights Out) are not as high as that album's (Open Wound is just an incredible track from start to finish). I don't love how abrupt the album ends but I think it's a worthy successor overall
