I may be getting ahead of myself here slightly, as I first peeped this (twice) just now, but it's low-key rather wonderful

I wasn't even aware of Sufjan's loss beforehand and lyrics aren't usually the first thing I notice either, yet this was immediately touching. The arrangements are very pretty as well. Being delicate and fairly understated in tone, yet simultaneously elaborate enough that I feel like it could reward repeated listens

Well a lot of these songs were probably finished before Evans’ passing right?

I think you’d classify it as a dedication of extant material yeah

My little cult favourites The Bathers are releasing a proper new album in two week's time for the first time in about twenty three years...I think that'll be the last chance something will come out to rival this for AOTY for me.

This is dang perfect.

Sufjan's material thus far has been a mixed bag for me (I certainly haven't been particularly thorough either, lots of gaps), but this could represent a major turning point

I'm now wanting to revisit a few of his previous albums

Yeah idk denboy maybe I am wrong, but I just don't think Evans' passing is what made Suf release this album

This was a pleasant record. Not as instantly grabbing as Carrie and Lowell, but still one of his strongest in recent memory.

C&L is pretty instantly grabbing, not a very complicated album in terms of instrumentation

"Imagine thinking c&l of all albums is sufjans “most instantly grabbing”

The themes and messages of the songs were relatable to something my family and I were going through at the time so yes... I was instantly gripped by the emotion and meaning behind the album.
