Band: Primus<
Album: Frizzle Fry
Primus' first studio album and they hit it off with a classic album. Frizzle Fry though matched with 'Seas of Cheese' it is one of the great albums ever. Perfect CD for someone new to the world of Primus.
To Defy The Laws Of Tradition- starts off with a live clip from something or other; then breaks down in a drownish tone to fit into the solem guitar line. Very haunting feel at first with Les' few bass notes. After a few seconds the song breaks into classic Primus feeling, bouncy bass feel and great drum line. Lyrically are that of the lyrics; a few examples of breaking traditions and what havoc they may cause. Great Primus song...one of my favorites.
5/5
Groundhog Day- a very slow moving song, les speaks very dull and lyrics are just a tad too dull than usual. As the song ends the song gets more up beat and makes the song more enjoyable. Not the greatest on the cd but its still a good solid song.
3/5
Too Many Puppies- The 'political' song of the album. Mainly about an anti-war song about soilders being trained for war but in a crafty metaphor of puppies. The beginning steadily builds the song up to a strong heavy feel all throughout the song. Nothing really much to complain of this song.....classic primus song. The mini drum breaks by the end are great as well.
4/5
Mr. Knowitall- The heavy bouncy feel of the last song follows through with Mr. Knowitall. The lyrics are spoken without music backing; except a drum beat about well, Mr. Knowitall. The song is simply heavy and bass driven as usual. Definitley one of the best on the cd.
4/5
Frizzle Fry- The title track and in my opinion the best song on the cd. Starts off pretty slow but soon enough it picks up. The lyrics are classic Primus style, very odd and humours. Its the story of the Frizzle Fry who beleives in nothing but Captain Crunch. The chorus seals the deal for this song being the best on the cd. Great bass line as well. Also the longest track on the album.
5/5
John The Fisherman- Everyone knows this primus song; not even primus fans. Starts off very upbeat with a solid drum beat. The beginning of the Fisherman Chronicles. Les' voice sounds the best in this song. Everybody is solid with their respective instruments, especially Herb.
4/5
You Cant Kill Michael Malloy- brief instrumental interlude played on some type of piano and violin. nothing fancy, just merges into next song

The Toys Go Winding Down- Goes from the slow feel of Michael Malloy to a very rough and heavy bass line giving a dark feel. Odd lyrics as usual; and as usual dont really make much sense. Good song, nothing to press the skip button over.
3/5
Pudding Time- Very funky feel in this song. Lyrics are quite odd like Toys... but the bands fantastic playing make its not really matter. Classic primus; great song. Another great track of Les' vocals.
3/5
Sathington Willoughby- Not really a song, merely a song about Sathington Willoughboy a politican, its very very short and merges right into the next song.

Spegetti Western- The oddest song of the cd, basically about a guy on too much drugs writing about being unemployed and boredom. The lyrics dont last long and the instrumental afterwards is much better. The lyrics are enjoyable, but the song could of just been a instrumental all togethor and it wouldnt have made a difference.
3/5
Harold Of The Rocks- Another favorite primus song. Story of a guy going to hang out with his friends who bring along a guy by the name of Harold. A jumpy song with great guitar line. Nothing more to explain, playing is great, lyrics are humorous as always. Only downside is the more mellow guitar solo drags on a bit to much. Hardly ruins the song though.
4/5
To Defy- as with every primus cd, a mild remix of the first song that last maybe 30 seconds. nothing flashy

Hello Skinny/Constantinople- Bonus track for the remaster. Much different than the rest of the cd but it is still a solid track. Kind of dull after awhile but the 'constantinople' break brings it up.
3/5
This album is tied with '...Seas Of Cheese' and neither are better than the other. Classic primus all the way through. Like cheese it is great from start to finish. The bonus of hello skinny is a good addition as well
