This keeps growing. I really like it.

"nice to see one of the great american bands of our time churning out some great tunes"
They've finally toppled the Beach Boys with this one. "a-RUUU-ba. Ja-MAIIIII-cAHHHhhh!"
On a more positive note, I was surprised at how much I liked Stride Rite. Really good track.

That's honestly one of my favorite parts and that's one of the best songs here

idk, a lot of these songs fluctuate hard between being alright and downright intolerable. at this point I'm praying for a sophomore Deakin album

Genies open is the big lowlight, and it’s long. Love the longest two songs

Defeat is so boring it's legitimately the only song I haven't come around to yet

only listened to it once but i found it entrancing. i was also working though, not sure how a fully focused 21 minute listen would go

No matter what side of the aisle you're on, I think everyone could agree with that.

I should check the first one

the third part of defeat “just a frightened mother” is amazing. The first part is great, less so but really awesome, the second part is kinda ok but the build to it is great, the fourth part is alright, suitable enough

I know neither is the best thing here, but Broke Zodiac and All The Clubs Are Broken are so much fun.

Defeat is one of the best things they've ever done. The rest of the album is one of the most middling.

King's Walk is actually beautiful. The special kind of AnCo hate sometimes seen on this site is callow and dreary.

It’s a decent album if you can cope with ‘where AnCo are at now’

I myself cannot cope with callowness or dreariness

I don't really get either of those vibes from late career AnCo - more they've possibly gone overly 'mature' in sound and laidback in general.
I see it as a response to 'Painting With' which sounded like trying to live up to their 'freak folk' credentials and going 'woah technicolor'.
I think where they've ended up considering how bad that album was is admirable enough.
Still think it's strange the solo work of Avey Tare and I guess Deakin (if he releases more) and even Panda Bear (on occasion) is generally more engaging.

I mean, if that ain't a recipe for dreariness...

it could be, I think they mostly avoid it - it's quite 'take it or leave it' though, I don't think they're trying to make a big splash or draw in loads of new listeners at this stage, they're blatantly preaching to the converted
