the press release literally cites: |PHLEBOTOMIZED, KAYO DOT and VAN DER GRAAF GENERATOR. and yes maudlin absolutely is an appropriate proxy for KD as it's most related to the Choirs sound heard here with it's instrumentation stratagems
and Mars I disagree with you about Owls. It maybe got caught some kind of viral reddit pep but it's pros far out weighed it's flaws and it proved to be not an easy success to replicate

I randomly decided to give this a go, and very much came to the same conclusion from one listen too. It felt like it's trying hard to do something expansive and interesting, but for some reason, there's something lacking.
