easy there kiddo
when this thing fucks it fucking fucks, but I don't think I've ever been so frustrated by unnecessary dead space on a grind album. can hold hands with Cloud Rat in the sexy pews all day, but it ain't touching Chepang's AI.shot noizcore

"unnecessary dead space" It's okay you can say wet dream and right of first refusal lol
Honestly could justify hype 5ing this without those two I think
Chepang needs another go I was REALLY not feeling a few tracks around the middle third but the rest was fuckin sweet

wasn't a particularly track-centric problem (first spin was half on pizza and wine so this was partially inadvertent) - found a bunch of tracks stalled just as they got to the meat
but the overall picture is still looking pretty fucking fine
Chepang has a couple of brief cuttables in the second and third quarters (and the final quarter is what it is lol), but the things that album sees off are unbelievable. those two long bois shit fuck damn

Issue with the new Chepang is the sheer fucking girth of it. So much to unpack in one listen I’m kinda surprised they didn’t turn it into 2 regular length grind LPs.

I mean it's very deliberately constructed as essentially a quadruple EP, where each side complements the next - not really comparable to a regular length grind LP as such. Could see an argument for the first and second sides working as a standalone, but the second half definitely benefits from the album shape and is strong enough to demand inclusion

Sure, I’m just saying its size (with ref to the genre standard quick and dirty run time) is a not insubstantial barrier to entry. I’ve listened to uh “““some””” grind and am no stranger to the loud-grr-screms, but am still finding it a slog (albeit a mostly v v enjoyable one). Hoping it starts to take a more coherent shape after a couple more listens.

I think probs get that tracklist up, look into the 4 sets of nomenclature and look out for the transitions between them - whole thing takes on a lot of shape very quickly
and then read up the credits for side C jfc there be names
|
| |
whats interesting about length despite the genres reputation is im 95% sure that all the og 80s classic LPs and even some later ones like pig destroyer and nasum are in the 30-40 min range
this was aight btw, i liked the weird stuff more than the straightforward nails-core but ill try again some other time

i would say 25-35 is maybe more representative, but then yh you've got the first two Brutal Truth albums pushing the boat out at 40+ and PD at a comfy 35

Ye the tracklist may as well be binary I can’t make head nor tail of it but tbh I have put very little effort into it other than noticing that the first tracks all start with A and the last are all 1 letter hmm

I like this a lot but I decided to no longer rate albums until I get married.

"may as well be binary"
there are A-songs
then there are 2-3 letter word songs
then there are 2-3 letter initial songs
then there are 1 letter songs
and then scroll down the page and read the credits that emphatically divide it into 4 quarters, each of which just so happens to have a very distinct take on the genre
hmm
cugno we are married nice lfg
