Finally able to read what the lyrics are in the background of that second Honest From The Jump verse, and it's "Feed on a feeling and live forever" which would have tied so well into the themes of this review. This EP has a lot of brilliant lines.

Yeah this was shocking, this is basically the perfect Yellowcard release. Also the perfect pop-punk record. The melodies are delicious, the choruses are massive, the singing is exceptional. I’m not big into pop-punk at all, and this EP practically makes up for the genre’s shortcomings lol

The drumming on the opener (and really most of the EP) is underrated and I'm really glad that Nate kicked things up a notch after two albums of relatively straightforward percussion.



I noticed the opener seems to be resonating with the more metal-leaning folks, which makes sense because it's basically a post-hardcore song.

It is vaguely similar to Recieving End of Sirens, at least in spirit, whom were kind of a legendary post hardcore band.

Pizza, if you think this drumming is good check out some stuff by their old drummer. A good reference point might be Five Becomes Four, The Takedown, or basically any of the more upbeat songs from When You're Through Thinking Say Yes or Southern Air.

@Storm: Can see that for sure. Either way, it's definitely not your standard YC pop-punk opener. It's a pretty cool experiment that for the most part pans out nicely.

Only one listen in but dare I say Ryan has never sounded better? Insanely catchy lines on every song. That will be perfect for the rest of the summer.

I agree he sounds great here. The whole band does. Someone somewhere said they weren't a fan of the way Ryan sings the verses (i.e. the part where he sings, "just like the addict you are") in the title track, but I love the variation. The talk-sung parts feel very folkish, and it's not something I would have expected from him but it definitely adds a dimension not otherwise found in their melodies. It makes those parts sound super confident which is awesome.

Opener and third track on this kinda bang, but I absolutely cannot stand the t/t or its leaden lyricism. Main guy's hooks are good but his voice is slappable

Interesting. I think his voice is pretty decent for the genre, but no part of me expected you to enjoy any of this at all, so that's at least something.

So, I’ve never been all that into YC. Ocean Avenue was one of the first albums i ever owned, but i only liked the first three songs and Only One. Saw them at Warped Tour in 2012 and they were great, but i didn’t dig deeper.

Liked this, so my wife and i checked out Southern Air and that shit slaps. Loved it. Binged it like three or four times in a row, got misty eyed at Ten every time, got stoked to check more. Thanks for putting so much into this review, Sowing. The hype did pretty well over here!

I'm a touch disappointed in this after few listens - main gripes are that the opener doesn't really hit the spot for a Yellowcard song for me, and the title track's lyrics are pretty actively bad, even if I give pop punk bands a pass on that most of the time (it's catchy enough to kinda jam anyways as well). Nonetheless, this is pretty approachable so I'll be coming back to it, maybe it'll win me over. The closer is really good.
