Probably the vocalist I fell out of love with quicker than any other, Serj is just terrible.
Music is sporadically awesome

Alchemist check their self-titled debut, it dominates this record
|

the difference is really not that big frankly

The songwriting is generally much better on the self-titled than here imo, plus the performances feel more natural
"Mind" and "Spiders" >> anything on here except for maybe "Chop Suey!"

Self titled is like a 4.5

If this is a 3.5 then the self-titled is a 4.5

Every SOAD album has at least one of their best songs tbh
Hell, Hypnotize is my least favorite SOAD album from what I recall, and yet I'd argue that "Holy Mountains" (a track from that album) is the pinnacle of their career

Not an overrated album in the slightest imo. They basically took all the worst aspects of nu metal (chugging pseudo-thrash, rhythmic vox, stupid lyrics, etc) and made them fun and actually enjoyable.

" aspects of nu metal (chugging pseudo-thrash "
wow

some of this album could be considered psuedo-thrash

nu metal bands just ripped off Sepultura's "Roots" and all of its down-tuned simple groove riffing so psuedo-thrash sounded like an appropriate descriptor idk. :-]
