Excellent review as expected, Rob! The record is an absolute banger.

Dude above, I don't think. Vadak was a "slump" at all, love it on fact.
Can't wait to tuck into this one.

This really sounds like his most violent output up to date.
Did the other albums also have programmed drums? cause they really stick out on this one (and I'm not a fan of those ). It's the only thing I'm finding a bit grating so far.

lol i was trying to discog dive this guy earlier in the year, which is something I don't really do anymore. Need to get around to finishing that.

@dewi
Yeah on and off minus features etc but our ears were being tuned out of that and focused on the avant- everything else’s that was happening - even when it was heavier or more straightforward.

Yes.

I've been meaning to give this band a shot for a while now, I've heard a few songs here and there but never really done a deep dive. Any recommendations where to start in their discography?

Just finished my first listen, an absolute slapper

The most rifftastic Catafalque record since Rengeteg, it even has guitar solos! Slapps hard, very enjoyable and an excellent starting point if someone has just met with Kátai's music for the first time. Some of the songs even have an OSDM vibe. Title track + Csillagot görgető are spine-chilling.

this guy is so much better at cheesy synth + folk integrations than than he is at stale riff spam. record's first three tracks are a rough run, but it's finally opening up around the halfway mark
|

Nah his riffs are sick
|
| |
yeah this dude can riff

So far so good. Much more straightforward that his usual fare but I'm digging it.

Yeah, this is straight to the point but still slaps

I half agree with Johnny that he's better at the synth + folk stuff (which there is not really enough of here for me) than he is with the riffs.
However, he's still really good with the riffs so this is pretty kickass.

This is all class, up there with Dodheimsgard and Enslaved for best prog bm releases in the first half of this year

Man, that new DHG album blew me away. Definitely my AOTY bar. New Enslaved is really good too.
Can't decide what to give this. It's like a 3.6-3.8 for me.

I'm loving this album, great replay value. Need to revisit a bunch of this band's earlier material.
