"fuuuuuuuuuck Army Of Non slaps hard. Godflesh makes metal sound cool again. Haven't finished the album yet but so far, review is unfortunately badong."

I don't know what to tell ya. There's nothing special here, it's just solid 'flesh.

This is the first godflesh release since justin publicized his diagnosed autism and PTSD; there’s an honesty about roots on this album that you’ve identified in your review but mistaken as standard ‘flesh. Looking to the past for inspiration doesn’t always have to mean being stuck in the past and this album is a great example of how that can be combined with where an artist is at in the now and give way to a revitalized take on their tried and true formula

There’s a real freshness to this music and it’s indelible in my opinion, feel like you’ve gotta be working overtime to not hear that coming through here

Yeah this got some weirdness particular to it that I don't think is in any of their previous releases.

Really like this one, might even prefer it to 'Post Self' which I also rated high - like how different they are, only the last song here reminds me of that album.

Maybe it helps that 'Pure' is my favourite Godflesh release?

I get where you're coming from. I hate having to review albums that just don't stick with me too. A shit album has more to write about, but one that's, for all intents and purposes, good, but also nothing to hook on to... it's a nightmare. My editor always has the most work with those because I don't really say anything in them, so there's an eternal back-and-forth of "what are you even trying to say here". I won't bail on the review because, y'know, money, but there's really no joy to it. How many different ways of saying "it's cool, didn't click for me tho" can there be? The end result satisfies no-one, really. Not the reader, not the fan, not the artist, not the writer (maybe?). And I kinda think that's the core of your (well-written) review. But I guess it had to be written, right? I don't know how sput staff reviews work.

I previously called that i would increase my score from 4 to 4.5 in a week... took me legit 12 hours. I got to be honest, Purge has something really haunted going on. And the album feels to me as if it has been with me my entire life, which is always a good thing. The last song and second half of Lazarus Leper are totally mesmerizing, the ending of Mythology of Self gives me absolute chills. Permission and Land Lord make my body shake, especially Land Lord scratches that Groove/Nu/Industrial Techno Metal itch (love the hi hats and the permanent what sounds like metroid death warning sampled to infinity)

About halfway through this and god damn is it dark, probably the darkest of all the post reunion flesh albums so far.

If you're on Lazarus Leper right now then yeah, that's shit's a right dirge.

Shit can you lot imagine how harsh this one must be live? I wonder how many tracks they'll do off this.

Lazarus Leper is dark as hell yeah.

This has the potential of becoming one of my favourite Godflesh albums i think. The musical/lyrical themes hit very close to home for me and i love the percussion on this one as well. The breakbeat/hip hop elements meld here in a way that the previous attempts fell a bit short, and Justin's vocals feel especially tortured.

God the synths on mythology of self are super haunting. This may not be anything new for Godflesh musically but it's so well executed.

Yeah, this is a huge part. They always felt a bit off on Us And Them but here, everything fits.

Erryone loves them some phat harsh hip-hop beats.

Nero is not representative of the quality of the rest of the album. Not my favorite opener, tbh.

Yeah Nero is the weakest song on here, kinda wish it wasn't the opener.

The sequencing is pretty amazing otherwise. I'd just switch Nero for Land Lord or Army of Non

'Industrial Metal

Sludge Metal, Breakbeat, Post-Metal, Dub, Industrial Hip Hop'

okay RYM's tagging has me intrigued at least. I couldn't get into Post-Self all that much, but I could definitely do with checking out more of Godflesh's discog outside of Streetcleaner (which I do enjoy).
