“ post punk isn’t real. it’s a genre that was defined by following another genre chronologically rather than by any actual intrinsic quality and even by that metric it’s made up. Marquee Moon came out 2 years before London Calling”

They’re all made up. Post-punk is like grunge, an umbrella used to demarcate more than just stylistic similarities. It doesn’t matter much more than that, none of them do.

I understand post punk isn't necessarily "real" but i find it useful as a descriptor as stuff labelled post punk usually has a certain sound or quality that appeals to me more than punk in the traditional sense. I feel much the same about post hardcore

Agreed. Labels are essentially wrong, but some are useful nevertheless.

New track was sleepy as shit. Miss when it felt like they had a bit more energy/buildup.

New track is really just Joe Casey wailing over some goth-ambient duo's stuff, so it ain't exactly anew song from Protomartyr

in the desert, I was humbled
seeing what a thousand years of ice did
but I'm not coldhearted
little dogs still lick my hand
