certainly disjointed in pacing and production, but the songs individually are really tight. needs a full volume, headphone experience to get that head-cradling, holding-back-tears Death of a Salesman type experience

I thought the overall flow here was excellent, start to finish.

This album is so awesome. To be 6 for 6 in this day and age is really a marvel. Such a special band.

"Band constantly has insanely great album art."

I love how all of their albums have a central image that's a face of some kind...creates a nice bit of consistency while each cover is still very distinctly its own

Also, Greg Ahee is one of the most underrated guitarists doing it

He literally talks about that art direction in this cool interview I linked in the Relatives thread.

I'd say it's a logical continuation of what they've been doing. Strong, simple images, featuring faces. The black is starkly contrasting previous designs but it's also the color of mourning.

Album artwork is great. Nothing here really hitting me like Agent or Relatives though

it's a bit of a cheat for Protomartyr, i think. it's all really good, but they cannot make shit music, even if they tried. so like i really enjoyed this album, but Agent and Ultimate Success, and especially Relatives, are so great that this is just kind of in the playlist now, among the other to-be-played-of-shuffle Protomartyr songs

"I prefer the best songs by all those bands to the best songs by this band."
I dunno IDLES have no staying power at all, I couldn't imagine listening to one of their albums more than 3 times

I've definitely heard Brutalism and Joy as an Act of Resistance a bunch. I probably only listen to them once or twice a year these days. Protomartyr are pretty consistently in my rotation.
