Man I honestly thought this was going to need to be more of a grower for me and at this point given a couple months this is going to rank among my top albums of theirs. I may like this one more than the last two which I REALLY did not see coming.

The album is back heavy but i think in a way that the whole album benefits from, like the opening tracks aren't any worse for it, it's just the album seems to keep picking up momentum for its full length and that entire run from Atlantic to the end is just insane imo and having fewer screams than usual makes those few moments hit really extra hard.
Also I just think Loic has really been improving overall with each album and appreciate him a lot on this record.

A definite highlight on Holocene is the appearance of the unmistakable, mesmerizing voice of Norwegian singer Karin Park on «Unconformities»
Got it
Also cool lol
“We're all huge fans of Mezzanine, which is still one of the best-produced albums to date, it has aged incredibly well”, says synth wizzard Voigtmann. “And for me it is an immensely heavy album too, a different kind of heaviness, but one that somehow connects logically with what we've been doing with The Ocean over the course of the past 2 albums.”

And agree with Shape there, the second half is insane. Definitely a bottom loaded album.

Second half of the closer now, which is really good too, brilliant album, easy top 10 of the year for now.

okay um is synth rock the ticket for the ocean to finally release something above a 3.5 hold my beer
opener's songwriting is very periphery + tolerable vocalist (and this ain't a compliment hmm)

When I first heard "Unconformities," my jaw dropped lol, incredible tune
This album definitely took me time before it sank in, but it's interesting to see others grasp it immediately. Perhaps I sold it short.

i take back the periphery comment - this seems like their way of trying to do they same kind understated guitar-as-auxiliary, expansive-aqueous-palette ebb and flow shit as O'Brother did on their latest (which mainly worked bc sexy vox and sexy tones, whereas this has the usual (hurr) watertight sterility deal as every other ocean i've heard uh)

If you never liked The Ocean this one won't change that I believe Johnny.
