This review is great and I’m pretty sure this album is gonna be my pop album of the year.

Yeaaaa just wrapped up first listen and this is a strong contender for disappointment of the year for me so far. It feels like she tried to capitalize on the organic success of What’s Your Pleasure by doubling down on the disco influences and the gay-icon status and it comes off as regressive musically and panderous conceptually. I like Begin Again because it still feels fresh enough to have been a Whats Your Pleasure cut, but otherwise the only song that did anything for me is Lightning, which would have been a much more interesting direction to have leaned into throughout.

rym seems to love it. insane average of 4.1 so far although it'll probably settle at 3.9 or smth. Still people seem to like it more than whats your pleasure.

Like I was sayin, if the idea of removing the “nu” from “nu-disco” appeals to you you’ll probably love it. I don’t really like old disco very much tho, the modern influences are what made What’s Your Pleasure (and nu-disco in general) appeal to me. I also feel like if that’s what I wanted to hear I’d just listen to any number of the myriad of classics that this evokes.

checked out Free Yourself and Begin Again and both are not really my thing. Feels a little bit cheesy to me. Feels too overproduced. Not a good start lol

Begin Again is one of the best songs 😬

BUT to be fair I didn’t like it the first time I heard it. Grew on me with a few more listens.

If that one doesn’t grow on you, you might be hooped.

Not convinced it is a reference to that Kill Bill line but even if it was that doesn’t stop it from being cringe

All the singles pretty much suck ass but there are some bangers on here. Beautiful People, Freak Me Now, That! Feels Good!, Lightning and These Lips are definitely the highlights on first listen to me. I just find it harder to ignore the cheesy lyrics on this album as opposed to on What's Your Pleasure, where they somehow didn't bother me that much.
